Tips For Taking Medicine You May Find Useful

By Adriana Noton

Tips for taking medicine may be useful to you if you have medication to take that you either don't like or find hard to swallow. Medication by nature is designed to work rather than taste good, this helps prevent children from ingesting it without knowing what it is. However, nasty tasting medicine just makes things worse if you don't like to take it in the first place.

If you do need to take medication and really don't like the way it tastes there are a few things you can do to disguise it. The options available to you will depend in part on the type on medicine you need to take. Take care to read the labels and information sheets that accompany your medication in order to check whether there are any special instructions you need to follow, such as only taking the medication with food.

If you find it hard to swallow pills and tablets there are several things you can do. Some pills can be dissolved in liquid. This is a good option if it is the act of swallowing that you find difficult, as opposed to the taste of the tablets.

Another things you could try is crushing the pills until they become a powder. This powder can then be mixed with food to disguise the medicine. This could range from mixing it with a spoonful of jelly, or putting it in with a whole meal. Which option you choose will depend on the instructions given which tell you how the pills should be taken.

Another method, which works whether your medication is in tablet or liquid form, is to give yourself a treat once you've had it. This could be anything from a piece of chocolate to five minutes peace and quiet on your own. The point is that it needs to be something you will consider a reward.

A tip for taking liquid medication is to mix it with another liquid that you like. You need to check that there are no restrictions on what it can be mixed with, and you also want to make sure to dilute it as little as possible. If in doubt you should check with your doctor or whoever prescribed the medication you are taking.

Routine is important when it comes to your medication. If you can get used to taking it at the same time each day there is much less chance of you forgetting it. If you just leave it until you remember you may end up missing doses and that could lessen the effect of the medication or have other side effects.

If you find taking medicine by yourself hard then you could think about asking someone to help you. A medication buddy could support you and check with you that you have taken your medication, and that you are okay. This support could be given to you by phone call or on person.

Tips for taking medicine during menopause are many and varied and often passed down through generations. Many families will have their own special ways of dealing with the problem. You might need to give a few methods a try before find one that works for you, but once you do it should work for life.
