Checklist For Your Sacramento Garage Door

By Tammy Saphire

Keeping your Sacramento Garage Door in good condition will provide you with a smooth operating door and a safe one as well. Remembering to clean your garage door when you wash your car, for instance, will benefit you year round. Salts from the roads can build up, if you live in an area that uses salt on the highways you should remove it from your door as it is corrosive.

The muscles of your garage door are the springs, make sure they are working well for optimal functionality. If the door is hard to open or close have a professional check it out for you, the springs could be out of adjustment or binding in the tracks. The springs could become worn out or become loose from repeated use.

With repeated use the hardware on the door will loosen, tighten loose bolts, screws, and nuts making sure everything is securely tightened. By having everything tight you will avoid the door becoming out of alignment.

Lubricate the moving parts, use a lightweight oil like a 3-in-1 lubricant to coat the track, rollers and hinge pins. Use a small brush to get into the hinges. Never use a heavy grease or oil on these parts. Apply oil at least twice a year and if you notice any loose screws, bolts or nuts tighten them as well. Clean well to remove any rust first.

Check the battery in the remote control for the garage door, replace it if you are having problems with the range it will work at. Interference with your remote can be caused by metal siding and it will shorten the range that the remote will operate.

Wipe down the weatherstripping with a vinyl cleaner to protect it from damaging UV rays and to keep it pliable and flexible. Check the bottom of the door for rust and decay if it is made from metal or wood. Apply a fresh coat of paint if you notice any peeling or warping.
