Apprenticeships in Lancashire

By Craig Abrahart

Think of an apprentice and you probably think of a young person getting their hands dirty while learning a trade like plumbing or bricklaying. You'd be right, of course, but there are also office-based apprenticeships like administration or sales, or more family oriented ones like childcare.

Blackburn, Blackpool, Lancaster and other busy towns in Lancashire have had a reputation of developing apprenticeships for over a century now, and they're still fine places to find an apprenticeship today.

Here at NotGoingToUni, our team has a wealth of business and recruitment experience and has helped thousands of students with their career and training choices - and that includes apprenticeships.

In most industries and business sectors throughout the UK, there are thousands of apprenticeships on offer. Any one of them gives you the chance of earning and learning at the same time - it's a mixture of classroom learning and on-the-job training, plus a regular pay cheque.

You'll be picking up valuable skills from people you'll be working with, as well as studying part time in a more relaxed environment than you've probably been used to up till now.

Once you've completed your apprenticeship, you'll have an excellent chance of full-time work anywhere in the UK ... but you might just find the first company to offer you a job is the one that's been sponsoring you all along.

Many successful people have gone the university route, but then again, many mega-successful people haven't. Would Simon Cowell grace our TV sets if he'd gone to university? Would you still have an iPod if Steve Jobs had spent a few more years in the classroom? Would you be using a Dell computer if Michael Dell hadn't dropped out of university to run a computer company instead?
