a romantic weekend break in acheap castle hotel rooms in Abruzzo

By Robert Brown

Holidays are infrequent in these forward-looking days of web and distance workers- Information and Communication Technology has brought about some great innovations, many of which we cannot live without: the web has created a new flat world where everything is at the click of a mouse, including the office and our jobs, leaving us with little if no privacy at all.

But there is a bright side to all this - the exiguity factor: the less we have of something the more we want and appreciate it - the same goes for Vacations.

With less free time we want to make the best of it and enjoy good company, have fun and relax, that's why a romantic holiday package in a mountain castle hotel is a exquisite and distinctive way to ritualize your passion, far from the noise and routine, alone in a quiet and romantic place, where time stands still in the silence of the wind, the break of dawn and sunset are slow and natural for us to savor like never before.

cheapest romantic getaways are what couples enjoy most - that opportunity to break free from the everyday daily routine of existence and correlated stress to benefit from each other independently, away from the children, simply the 2 of you for some quality time in a castle hotel with a view in Abruzzo.

Today castle hotels and leisure centre in Abruzzo are an elegant destination not only for their built-in historical value, but also for their singular positions which make a castle hotel an exclusive retreat for a very intimate holiday.

The Monastery of Santo Spirito is a Castle Hotel in Abruzzo, the first Cistercian settlement in the valley of L'Aquila. Santo Spirito was built in 1222 on land offered by Count Berardo of Ocre by Placido of Roio. After the founder's death in 1248, the monastery came under the auspices of the Cistercian Order and the Convent of Santa Maria in Casanova, near Penne.

In 1330 it was already given in trust to the cardinals Maffeo and Francesco Barberini; Centuries later This charming small monastery was destined to be abolished by Pope Innocent X.

Santo Spirito is isolated from the surrounding mountain landscape by tall massive walls surrounding the entire landscape. The square courtyard, the church, refectory, dormitory and chapter room are all part of this majestic historical jewel.

Today the Monastery of Santo Spirito is a charming Castle Hotel with a majestic view of the Aquilano valley and the Gran Sasso towering at just under 3.000 meters.
