Blinds: A Practical Answer For Window Treatments

By Jason Graham

You have just gotten your window blinds, drapes and curtains cleaned and put back up in all of the rooms in your place. Taking them down, sending the ones that have to be professionally cleaned to the cleaners and cleaning the rest in your washing machine, then putting them all back up took a lot of resources. There's also the pricetag for the cleaners. What a chore that was! You don't want to go thru that again but is there a commonsense answer? Yes, there is. Blinds could be just the solution you need and there are rather more options than you may think.

Blinds are available in many styles, colours and materials. You can easily find the best ones for each room. Each rooms personality can be complimented, contrasted or blended into by selecting the style, colour and/or material that most nearly fits what you envision for that room. You may choose roman style for the lounge, vertical for the sliding glass door, and venetian for the bedrooms. Material options include vinyl, aluminium, fabric and even wood. The colour range is enormous and if the colour you want isn't available in readymade blinds, you could be able to get them customized, especially if they are made of fabric.

For most blinds, cleaning simply means wiping them with a fabric, either dry or damp. Fabric blinds may need more than this but even a lot of them can be cleaned less complicated than drapes. Vinyl and aluminium are the simplest to wash since those materials are not as permeable and the dirt and dust remains on the surface. With wood and fabric, you will want to be sure they are treated so they are impervious to mud being embedded in the material. Periodically, you might want to treat wooden blinds with a wood product to maintain the fantastic thing about the wood. This may not be needed if they're coated with a clear polyurethane finish.

Blinds have an additional advantage over curtains besides cleaning. You've got more control of the amount of light you let in and maintaining privacy at the same time. That's really hard to do with curtains. With curtains and drapes, they are closed or open. Sheers help a little to let in more light and still have some privacy but that implies more to take down, clean and put back up. Blinds can be entirely open, entirely closed, partly closed or open with the slats or panels adjusted to let some light through.

Take a close look into replacing your curtains with blinds. Possibilities are that you will see them as a awfully sensible solution to window treatments for your house. So you can get an idea of what options you have, go browsing when you can spend a while scanning through what is available. When you're prepared for a much more serious look, talk to a representative who can help you make the very best choices for every one of your rooms.
