Whats Renault Up To In The Coming Years?

By Edmont Pescatelini

Renault selected Tavares Carlos as Operational Director, and the new plans of the company for the next years were announced with this occasion. The goal of the new director is fairly difficult: he has to make the Renault brand a powerful name in both Europe and America but the company also wants to penetrate the Chinese market, especially in the niche of SUVs.

Having said that, Renault is intending to become an eco-friendly company, so they are mounting solar panels on the roofs of their factories in France. The solar panel project is the biggest for the automotive industry as the solar panels will cover 450,000 square meters and supply 60 megawatts of power that is certainly enough to power 20,000 homes.

The undertaking will begin in June and is expected to be completed in February of next year. They hope to lower the amount of pollution in the environment. Another project similar to this was undertaken by Seat and they have solar panels mounted on their factories in Spain.

The firm also wants to take care of the problem of the industrial espionage. Renault is doing their best to become a more attractive brand that offers high end cars. The industrial espionage scandal impacted the image of the company but this is only one of the difficulties. The top management of Renault also views their present car designs are a bit out of step with todays consumers and they need to improve on it.

When Renault officially retained Laurens van den Acker as their new chief designer, radical changes happened in car designs. The Clio is expected to be the first car under Renaults new perception with a redesigned body and engine as well as state of the art electronics.

Renault has been battling somewhat in the medium to superior class of cars going down from 150,000 cars sold in 2005 to just 100,000 cars last year. In the meantime, Renault should work on the cars that will bring in the most money and wait for the new models that will hit the streets in 2014-2015. The French media state that Tavares must seek to equilibrate the two partners of the French alliance, as Renault sold 2.6 million cars last year, while Nissan sold more than 4 million.

Another issue that Renault has is definitely the lack of presence in China but are trying to fix that between 2013 and 2016. Plus, Renault does not currently have any presence in the United States in any respect. There aren't any clear plans about the American markets but Renault will try to consolidate its position in Russia and Brazil. The Indian sector was a fiasco but the French manufacturers are determined to bring new models there and they are planning to build thousands of models especially for this market.

Therefore, for Renault to realize their goal of selling an extra 400,000 cars in the next few years, they will need to continue to innovate and improve the designs on all their cars.
