Picking Among Old Cars With Automatic Or Manual Transmission

By Bert Carr

Modern citizens are busy finding comfort in their lives. That's why they purchase gadgets, appliances or devices for their home or personal use. Private automobiles are not new to the list since many people have long realized the importance of having your own means of transportation. However, brand new vehicles tend to be very expensive; that's why used cars for sale are also being focused by dealers for selling, nowadays.

Although brand new vehicles have come out in different models, there's no underestimating the number of used cars in lancaster being sold nowadays too. Many dealers offer many of these to common buyers. Thus, clients need to select wisely in order to get the best value. One of the concerns they need to address is whether to buy a car with an automatic transmission or a manual one.

There's a lot of confusion about choosing a car with automatics or manuals. Many citizens say that automatics are more beneficial than manuals due to the convenience they provide. But the fact that it is newer doesn't mean it's better for some. Everybody should take a closer look at these transmissions to find out which one suits their needs.

If you drive a car with manuals, you need to shift gears according to how fast the car should go. Many people get discouraged about this aspect, especially women who experience failures in their driving tests. Women usually go for ATs due to the convenience. ATs are also more advisable in areas with heavy traffic, since you won't have to constantly shift gears.

What one needs to do to keep a car with an AT in a halt position, say during a stop light, is keep his foot on the brake pedal. Everything else, while the vehicle is running, is done automatically using high technology. Drivers don't need to fret about whether they will jump start their vehicles because they did not move the clutch pedals smoothly enough. Jump starts, when done so frequently, causes transmissions to become damaged faster.

However, manuals provide you better control than ATs. Although all you have to do is step on the brake pedal to put your car into a halt with an AT, manuals allow you to stir your vehicle the way you want it. Manuals are also noted to have greater power compared to ATs. It is reported that the 0-60 MPH time differences between the two types of transmissions can be up to 2.4 seconds.

If you are concerned with fuel economy, 5-speed manuals are reported to be more efficient. These transmissions don't require that much fuel to work. However, there may be exceptions to the rule because some newer models with automatics have EPA ratings which are only 1 to 2 MPG lesser than vehicles with manuals. Besides, automatics cost a lot more than manuals in a car.

In relation to costs, if you happen to damage your transmission, repairing automatics would cost a lot more than manual transmissions. Automatics were engineered using more complicated technology; experts will require more time to fix them, thus a higher price for repairs is needed. You will also notice that buying automatics, in the first place, is more expensive than manuals.

Choosing used cars with an automatic or manual transmission really is up to your preferences and needs. If you prefer convenience over cost, then automatics would be more feasible for you. If you are committed to having the right discipline in manipulating clutch pedals and sticks while incurring lesser costs, manuals would be a good choice. Both transmissions, when taken good care of, work much in the same way.
