From the device manager if you see yellow icon beside network adapter tab then the driver may be corrupted or facing some problem to communicate with pc. Reinstalling the driver may solve the problem. Select the driver from device manager and right click, then uninstall it and restart the computer .Your PC will find the hardware automatically and allow you to reinstall the driver. Reinstall it and see if the problem is solved.
A new installed hardware can create malfunctioning problem for your network card .Then the network card can freeze the computer. So before installing hardware it should be made sure that the hardware will not create problem with your network card. Often the new hardware may share the same system resources with your network card. In this case it can interrupt the function of the network card. From computer management options check your system log to check for this kind of error. If this happens moving the hardware to different slot can solve the problem. Hardware confliction can make your network card to freeze your computer. The newly installed hardware's driver also can block your network card driver. Uninstall that new harware's driver and check if your computer can work properly without being crashed. If it can work properly then find a compatible version of that driver which will not create any problem.
