There Is Money To Be Made In Junk

By Carlos Cifuentes

The prospect of dealing with others' unwanted discards may not be a good match or appeal to many fledgling entrepreneurs. Despite this negative perception, an ambitious junk removal business entrepreneur can clean up in more ways than one by hauling away other parties' castoffs. There are two primary business tasks that lie before junk removal entrepreneurs. The first is constructing is an advertising campaign geared toward firms and individuals who may want or need assistance in removing unneeded items from commercial or residential premises. The second phase is to sift through collected items and select those which may still have resale value.

Finding the junk is something that is easily done. All we have to do is pay attention when we are out driving around. Most people have something in their yard that they would like to dispose of that they do not have the means to haul it away. We can be picking up anything from an old refrigerator to a broken coffee table. Sometimes, if a family member passes away, the family will call a junk removal business entrepreneur to come and get all of the items.

Numerous "junk" categories exist that consumers and businesses need assistance to remove. Construction debris is invariably of no value. Neither are unwanted personal household possessions such as worn mattresses or carpets. All such garbage must go to the nearest dump or landfill eventually.

Other items might have some aluminum or metal content and they can be sold for their metal content. Depending on the weight, type of metal and purity, this type of discarded material can be worth a few dollars or a few hundred dollars. The "prime" junk might be the result of someone doing a spring cleaning or perhaps because they bought new furniture or appliances and just want the old stuff removed. Items may have a good resale value as they are or they can be easily repaired and then put up for sale.

Sometimes people will be doing some spring cleaning around our home and they would like to remove old furniture or even possibly yard clippings. Once you have picked up the items, they are the property of your business. You can do with them as you wish.

The bulk of a junk removal business entrepreneur's profit comes from this activity. Organization and the ability to distinguish "bad" junk from "good" junk are the keys to success. An effective means of disposing of items with residual value must also be developed. In addition to selling items for their wholesale scrap metal value, you might also be able to market some things like paintings, toys, furnishings, or clothing to individuals for practical or intrinsic value.

It is important to know which items are of value and which ones are garbage. Most people are willing to throw away perfectly good items just because they have decided to upgrade. This is the perfect opportunity to make a small fortune.
