Link Value and Link Building SEO

By Jerry Donnel

Link-building SEO (Search Engine Optimization) has two principal purposes: To boost traffic to a site and to increase the website's ranking in search engines. Usually, the more incoming backlinks a site has, the higher it will rank. Even so, it isn't all about the volume of the incoming links, it's also very much about the quality of the incoming links. A multitude of weak backlinks often don't equal to the value of one or two strong valuable links. Google and other search engines look at a website with numerous strong inbound links to be important, and consequently it will rank higher. So what determines the value of a backlink? There are a variety of factors.

1) Anchor text. This is the observable part of the link that someone views when viewing the link. For example if you examine a link for a car insurance website you might be forwarded to a place like progressive.com however the text which you notice in the link might be "auto insurance". These types of links in which the anchor text is detailed is a lot more useful than those with merely a simple URL link.

2) Page authority. Backlinks from websites and web pages that Google views to be significant have greater value than others from websites and web pages Google doesn't consider to be important. If your website posseses an incoming link from nasa.gov, that backlink could carry much more value than a backlink from billspetshop.com.

3) Number of other links. If your link is the only link on a web page it's going to have much more value than a link on a web page with dozens of other links. The simplest way to think about this is in numerical terms. If the page has a weight of 100 and your link is the only link on the page, then it'll get 100% of the value. Nonetheless, if your link shares the page with 20 other links it'll receive only 5% value. 4) Domain age. The age of the domain in which the backlink is placed provides some value on the link. This is because older and more established sites are more reliable to Google as well as other search engines. 5) Relevancy. If the web page the backlink is coming from is focused on scrapbooking and the backlink leads to another site about scrapbooking, the backlink has a lot more value than if it leads to a website concerning exotic cars. Google weighs the value of all incoming links to a website, link building SEO is about building links that work jointly in concert around a common relevant theme.

While they're some of the most critical factors to link building SEO there might be other smaller factors that you can consider.
