Performing Arts Summer Camps: Training for Tomorrow's Best

Summer is the favorite time of the year among individuals. It is also the time where school age children can take rest from their books and mind-boggling examinations and have ample time to take vacation escapade with family or friends. This is also the season where most of the kids can acquire enormous leaning experiences from summer camps or other out of school activities.

Summer camp is a program that usually occurs during summer months. It is geared towards positive youth development where children and teenagers can learn life skills and other skills that they want to develop in a safe setting where they can interact with supervising adults. There are various kinds of summer camps that parents would want their children to get into. One of these is the performing arts summer camp.

Dance, music, theater, magic, circus and visual arts are programs being offered by most performing arts summer camps. It is an avenue for youth who enrolled in this program to present their talent and skills which can be developed further during the entire camp days. Beginners can also benefit as most summer camps program are customize for them.

There are several summer camps that offer this type of program. Woods Festival of the Performing Arts, Interlochen Arts Camp and Stagedoor Manor are few of the famous camps that have sterling program for both children and teens.

Stagedoor Manor is highly regarded for training several famous child actors. It was founded in 1975 in upstate New York by Carl and Elsie Samuelson. Artistic Director Jack Romano and Jacqueline Ferber are also important people in establishing that particular camp. There are numerous theater spaces inside the camp like Jack Romano Playhouse and Carl and Elsie Samuelson Theater.

Stagedoor Manor was the subject of Alexandra Shiva's 2006 documentary. The performing arts summer camps notable alumni include Natalie Portman, Mandy Moore and Robert Downey, Jr.

On the other hand, French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts is another New York based summer camp. It is known for training several personalities in various fields of performing arts. The famous Maroon 5 vocalist Adam Levine, fashion icon Zac Posen and composer Jason Robert Brown are few of the famous celebrities who had their training in the said camp.

Another notable performing arts summer camp is the Interlochen Center for the Arts. An institution based in Interlochen, Michigan, USA. The performing arts center is composed of Interlochen Arts Camp and Interlochen Arts Academy. Its famous alumni include Norah Jones, Josh Groban and Larry Page.

The United States have several excellent performing arts summer camps. Sending children to performing arts school can really enhance their talent and skills; however, it will be more interesting to send them to some known performing arts summer camps to hone further their craft.
