By Alicia Green

There are no things such as dangerous as a car with dysfunctional EBC brakes and almost all drivers know about this matter. Changing brake pads at regular time interval is absolutely important.. Your safety while driving relies on several factors but concerning brakes is all dependent on equipment: saving money on brake pads isn't worth it.

You don't have to go to the repair shop just to change your brake pads, because you can simply do it yourself. When it is the first time you do it, it will surely take some hours, it's not difficult but it will demand some time if you are not skilled. Caution: after driving, the car brake pads and brake discs are hot. Avoid any probable risk working in a safe area.

*Ensure that your car isn't going to move at all; position the handbrake and park inside a plain area.

* Release the lug nuts before raising the car up.

* Jack the car up so that you can take off the wheel as if replacing the wheel. (Use two jack means your own safety)

* Take away the caliper bolts so that it will slide off the disc: brake pads are the black parts which were close to the disc surface.

* Take them off from the caliper: there are numerous types of calipers so you must see results for yourself in your car to help you easily do it: it is simply a matter of bolts or clips.

* Take the time to check brake rotors condition, rotors should be a lot smoother as possible and should not have any asperities. If it is damaged, you'll have to get a new one. Discs may also be reconditioned, but it is not advised.

* Next, using the new thicker yellowstuff pads, you must push the caliper piston and return it to its original position but to be able to create enough space for the new pads, you may need a flexible spanner or a C-Clamp.

* Apply brake pad oil on the part that is not connected with the rotor and place them in the caliper.

* Reassemble everything as it was and continue with the other side and the rear axle if your car has four disc brakes.

After you're done, head out for a drive test, slowly. Listen closely as the brake pedal might be softer and braking spaces longer. In next days, the new EBC pads may reach their final position and any noise should fade away. And, lastly, you have to make sure that you reassemble everything carefully.
